The sound of Bill Withers' rich vocals rang in my head, and I felt something that was oddly soothing and familiar as I watched my daughter whip, stir, design, repeat. For a time, this was her favorite song. She says it always reminded her of my grandmother, who greatly influenced her desire to be in the kitchen. When she is, she becomes lost in a world of palate-pleasing creation. It is her safety zone. You might as well put out cones and barricades and redirect all traffic because she is busy constructing her latest masterpiece. For this, she should not be disturbed.
I remember how fascinated my daughter was as a child with how my grandmother started from scratch, often using home-grown ingredients, and by the time we sat down for any holiday meal, she had created a feast fit for a king. She made it her business to make a dessert item for all eighteen of her grandchildren every year at Christmas. Pie fillings, pastries, spices...these things would grow to mean a great deal to the young lady who would eventually become the owner and operator of her own dessert company.
The impact that her great-grandmother had on her is evident in the care Shavon Greer takes in planning and executing every dish. The love she has for cooking drives her desire to continue to create desserts and meals that are delicious and affordable.
Try any variety of her banana pudding, and you will be hooked!
